Minecraft was developed by Swedish computer programmer Markus “Notch” Persson and released in late 2011. Mobile, smartphone and video gaming system compatibility for Android, iOS PlayStation and Xbox products has ensured that the PC-based sandbox game with infinite playing possibilities ensures global popularity for years to come. LEGO has teamed up with Microsoft, the new owner of Minecraft after a multi-billion dollar buyout in 2014, and one of their many offerings is the Minecraft 21117 The Ender Dragon playset.

Worth The Money?
If you are into LEGO and Minecraft then this makes a “must have” purchase. The price tag is comparable to other LEGO sets which include the same number of pieces as this one.
Featuring Sand Island, an Ender Dragon and dragon egg from the popular Minecraft PC game, you build a physical LEGO creation according to the included instruction guide. You may also create your own environments, monsters and scenarios.
There are compatible biomes in the series to deliver virtually limitless creations, as ordained by your imagination. The Ender Dragon is not a minifigure, which is really nice.
This is a large winged creature that looks pretty impressive. Kudos to LEGO for designing “actual” wings instead of forcing some block-shaped adaptation on Minecraft fans. The Dragon measures a full 13 inches long and 13 inches wide, and stands 8 inches high.
The Dragon looks rather imposing on Sand Island, which measures 9 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 6 inches high. Weapons include both a bowl and sword, and this LEGO playset also offers light-brick Ender Crystals and obsidian pillar elements which will be familiar to Minecraft players.
A helmet and armor protect our hero Steve from the deadly dragon and dangerous Endermen as he battles to save the day on Sand Island. If you are lucky enough to slay the dragon that protects the Ender Crystals, collecting its egg reveals an exit portal that allows you to leave the dayless dimension that is The End.
A really nice detail is the glowing red brick in the Sand Island tower. It is powered by a battery which has been included, and glows when you push it down to “energize” the crystals.
This makes a definite purchase for fans of the LEGO Minecraft marriage. The Dragon is large and well done, and the glowing tower delivers a visual “real world” element not found on the majority of Minecraft products. The purchase price is also what you expect from a 600+ piece LEGO play set, and will appeal to children 8 to 12 years of age.
