Who Would Buy This?

Anyone who loves to play with mechanical toys is sure to find the Powerup 3.0 RC Kit a pleasure to play with. Of course, some would argue that it is not entirely mechanical, but the technology behind it, and the concept of having a paper airplane really take flight, is enough to catch anyone’s fancy.

Things We Like

  • At one point in our lives, we all have played with toy airplanes or, at the very least, tried folding paper into submission and turn it into a plane. The Powerup 3.0 RC Kit takes it a step further by actually making the paper airplane fly.Planes have the tendency to crash, and we appreciate the crash-proof design of the Powerup 3.0 RC Kit. The frame is made of carbon fiber, so durability is never going to be an issue.
  • The simplicity of the whole process is what ultimately clinches it for us. Fold, attach, connect, and fly. That’s it. There are no settings to configure, no wires or cables to deal with. Everything that you need to fly the paper airplane is already going to be included in the kit.
  • One full charge of the battery will already give you over 10 minutes of flight. That is definitely a vast improvement from the Powerup 3.0 RC Kit’s predecessor, which has a flight duration of 90 seconds, or a minute and a half. The battery level indicator definitely comes in handy, informing you when you need to recharge the battery.
  • Piloting” the Powerup 3.0 RC Kit is also very easy, and that is mainly thanks to the user-friendly interface of the app. To steer the paper airplane from side to side, all you have to do is steer the smartphone. To let it soar, or swoop down low, use the throttle lever provided by the app.

Things We Don’t Like

  • There are certain limitations to the Powerup 3.0 RC Kit that should be addressed. First, it makes use of Bluetooth 4.0, so smartphones that do not have this capability won’t be able to control the paper airplane. There is also the fact that the paper used has to be a specific size – a regular A4 or 8.5 x 11 copier paper. We’d like to see a future version that will accept any type of paper.

PowerUp Toys has not released any information regarding warranty for this product.

Is It Worth The Money?

There is no denying that the $49.99 spent on a Powerup 3.0 RC Kit is worth it.
