MOSS is the latest robotic building toy from Modular Robotics, makers of the hugely popular Cubelets. It is composed of cubes with sensors, and input-output mechanisms, offering a lot of flexibility and letting users create robots in a fun and easy way!
MOSS Build Robots, which are expected to be available for retail on April or May 2014, costs $150 for the 14-module Basic Kit, and $480 for the Advanced Builder Kit.
Who Would Buy This?
Kids and engineers alike will love this robotic building toy for its simplicity and the flexibility it offers. Children will be able to let their imagination take flight as they create various robots out of the blocks included in the MOSS robotic construction set. Adults who are looking for a challenge in building blocks will also appreciate how the electronic and structural components of MOSS make it possible for them to come up with complicated and ambitious robots.
Things We Like
- The simplicity and user-friendliness of MOSS is one of its main draws. It is intuitive, but it is also fun, making each “building experience” an adventure. You don’t have to have technical or programming knowledge in order to create a robot. There is no coding required, and you won’t have to worry about dealing with wires and cables which can get all tangled up and messy. You won’t have to worry about having to figure out lots of complicated configurations, either!
- The build quality of the robots is also very impressive. The magnets and steel ball bearings on the corners of the blocks effectively secure the cubes together, locking them firmly in place. Even if you build a large and intricate robot, you won’t have to worry about it unraveling.
- The color-coding mechanism of MOSS also makes assembly easier. The green cubes are for power, the blue cubes are for pass through, while the orange and brown cubes are for output and input, respectively.
Things We Don’t Like
- This early, it is still difficult to tell whether the MOSS robotic building toy has any negative aspects. One thing’s for sure, though. Anticipation is high for the release of this building toy, as many people cannot wait to see what possible robots they can come up with once they get their hands on MOSS.
Modular Robotics still has not released any information regarding guarantees and product warranty for MOSS build robots.
Is It Worth The Money?
Depending on which MOSS kit you purchase, you are sure to have a great time creating your own robots. Anything that will let you have fun while exercising your creativity is definitely worth every cent you spend on it.
Where Can I Buy?
You can expect the MOSS robotic building toy to be available in retail stores, as well as the official MOSS store. You can also look for it in merchant stores online, such as Amazon.
With the MOSS robotic toy, you are sure to have a blast building your own robots, while letting your imagination run wild!
