Is the LEGO Jurassic World Dilophosaurus Ambush Worth Buying?
While the Jurassic Park franchise will undoubtedly attract a whole new generation of fans following the release of Jurassic World, there remains a steadfast support of adults who grew up with Jurassic Park. As a result, these Jurassic World sets from LEGO look to be this summer’s hot property in LEGO land.
This particular set, featuring a park owned 4 x 4, a gyro sphere and a dilophosaurus is aimed at ages 6 – 12, but more realistically this should simply say 6+. Assembly is not overly complicated – the instructions are straight forward and there are few challenging sections that may cause problems. When assembled, the truck measures 8 x 15 x 7 cm, the dilophosaurus stands 7 cm tall and the gyro sphere at 6 cm across.
One of the most welcome aspects of this set is just how much fun it is to play with. Rather than limit itself as model, this set is definitely designed to be played with. The truck features a winch with which to catch the dilophosaurus’ leg, but watch out as if the dino manages to jump on the 4 x 4 he could set off the exploding function! The dilophosaurus itself has movable arms, legs, neck and jaws, and to top it all off the gyro sphere actually works as a gyro sphere!
Too often in the rush to put sets together to capitalize on a summer blockbuster film, LEGO can sacrifice playing functionality for physical resemblance. Thankfully, this isn’t the case here. The 4 x 4 and dilophosaurus are excellent replicas while still retaining fantastic functionality. As a result, this set is going to be just as popular with children as it is with adult Jurassic Park fans.
