Happiness is something most of us would die for, but how many of us can recognize all those simple things that can bring happiness and keep it sparkling in our lives?
As evidenced by scientists and researchers, happy people are healthier and wealthier than the average. If we also consider happiness will bring a feeling of peace and well-being in your life, there’s no wonder we are all striving to be happy, even if some of us become utterly miserable in this process.
Here are 8 simple strategies for boosting your happiness levels, if you make them your habits:
1. Do things that provide you pleasure and excitement.
We are all busy, but we should make time for activities we enjoy, because that’s where happiness lies. If you do believe you don’t have time, just make a list of things you could possibly give up in order to make some room for things you enjoy.
2. Step out of your comfort zone.
Pushing your boundaries will trigger an adrenaline flow which will make you live in the moment and feel happier. Outside your limits, that’s where most of the fun and excitement is, so don’t be afraid to go for it, even if this means doing things you are not too comfortable with.
3. Make your living space speak volumes about who you are.
You need to like the environment you live in, so take time to change it, if it doesn’t represent you fully. You don’t need a lot of money to bring a room to life. Sometimes, just a hint of color and a vase with flower would suffice to change everything and put you in a better mood.
4. Forget about the details.
Who cares about a pair of dirty socks on the living room floor? Don’t make yourself unhappy over so little things, because they don’t matter as much as you believe. Just let things be and enjoy the moment. Don’t worry over details, because nobody is perfect, so striving for perfection is hard on most people.
5. Celebrate everything.
Every little accomplishment needs to be properly acknowledged and celebrated, at work and in your private life. If your spouse did something that makes you proud of her, say it and find a way to celebrate it. If your team at work did something noticeable, it’s celebration time again. Such moments matter a lot, as life is nothing but a sum of moments. Make it a sum of positives rather than negatives.
When you give something to others you get a pleasant feeling of being useful, so don’t shy away from volunteering or helping people without expecting anything else in return.
7. Choose Your “Team”
You want to surround yourself with people who appreciate you for what you are, who value you and who aren’t afraid to give you honest feedback and still love you, despite the fact that they see your imperfections. Feeling appreciated boosts the levels of happiness quite a lot.
8. Embrace your negative feelings as well.
Being sad or angry is human, so don’t be afraid to acknowledge your negative feelings, because they are also part of who you are. You can be sad and perfectly OK at the same time, so don’t try to maintain a silly smile on your face at all times. Happiness is much more than that!
