The Wolf of Wall Street was a 2013 film that would have to be classified as a dark comedy movie. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, the movie is based on Belfort’s real-life memoirs related in the book of the same name.
The movie exposes the lead character as a New York stockbroker who runs a trading firm in the 1990s. But Belfort doesn’t do things by the book, and ends up engaging in securities fraud and other criminal activities to finance his lavish and hedonistic lifestyle.
To play the morally ambiguous Belfort, dark blue, two-piece power suits from the early 90s work well. Accompany the look with a straight, no-nonsense “young republican” haircut and you have a good start.
Jordan Belfort is also frequently seen in branded three button cotton polo shirts and pleated khakis. Don’t forget the expensive watch and smug look of self-importance and indulgence.
Belfort begins the film as a small time penny stock trader, and he befriends a salesman by the name of Donnie Azoff (played by Jonah Hill). The two decide to team up and run their own “pump and dump” stock scam, which forms the basis for the beginning of the film.
Donnie is a portly, curly haired and gregarious character. He frequently wears pinks, purples and light blues, and is always sporting an expensive gold watch and tortoiseshell colored glasses.
Belfort’s love interest in the film is Naomi Lapaglia (played by Margot Robbie), even though he is married to his wife Teresa (Cristin Milioti). The blonde haired bombshell Naomi is often seen wearing bright pinks and blues typical of the time period.
Any respectable Naomi costume will always include an expensive hairstyle, makeup and a beautiful smile.
Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) is a Wall Street executive who gives Belfort his first job. Hanna takes Belfort under his wing and helps him become a certified stockbroker, before his company declares bankruptcy after Black Monday’s stock market crash of 1987.
Matthew McConaughey is most often seen in The Wolf of Wall Street in a dark blue power suit and complementary light blue shirt with white collar. The Mark Hanna costume is completed with a feathered dark brown hair style and maroon necktie.
The Wolf of Wall Street outfits are hardly iconic. So you may want to think about joining a group of friends and attending your next Halloween event or costume party as a group, dressed as the main characters in the film.
