20 years after the original Dumb and Dumber movie that was a smash comedy hit, Dumb and Dumber To hit the theaters in 2014. Yep, you read that correctly. That is “To” instead of “Two” or “2” to drive home the point that the main characters have not matured at all in the two decades since the original film.
Returning main stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, the premise of the comedy film is simple – dimwitted but good-natured best friends Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas set out to find Harry’s daughter, and Lloyd falls in love again. In an odd and sort of unsettling twist, Lloyd falls in love with Howard’s daughter this time around.
As far as Halloween costumes go, the original Dumb and Dumber film delivered the unforgettable bright orange and powder puff blue tuxedos, walking canes and top hats which Howard and Lloyd wore.
In this sequel to the popular film, funnyman Jim Carrey portrays Lloyd with the same bowl haircut and crazy grin that debuted with his character in the first movie. A simple gray zip up jacket over an off-orange T-shirt accompanied with gray or dark green slacks and tennis shoes is Lloyd’s predominant outfit in this Dumb and Dumber To.
The talented Jeff Daniels returns Howard with the same shock of wildly tousled blondish brown hair and goofy smile that his character wore in 1994. Add a brown striped shirt and 1980s style cotton, purple and brown zip-up warm-up jacket with blue jeans and you have created an effective Dumb and Dumber To Howard costume.
Since most of the characters wear normal clothing, a great idea for Halloween is to grab a friend to join you in portraying the Dumb and Dumber duo. You will be twice as recognizable.
The bowl haircut of Lloyd and frizzy, unkempt, wild hairstyle of Howard are definite must-haves when creating these characters.
Female Dumb and Dumber fans can also get in on the act. Kathleen Turner plays Fraida Felcher. A young Fraida is played by Jennifer Lawrence in a cameo. You may remember Fraida as one of a pair of young ladies that unsuccessfully invited the mentally challenged duo to a “wild girls’ party” in the first film.
In that original, both Howard and Lloyd had a connection with Cranston, New Jersey’s Fraida, and she is back as the mother of Howard’s child. Fraida wears simple plaid or print shirts, little makeup, and a confused expression.
