Family traditions can be the glue which holds a family together. This is particularly true when it comes to traditions concerning holidays. Many families wonder how to celebrate Easter more meaningfully as well as the other holidays throughout the year.

Rather than focusing on the Easter candy the children will receive and eat, focus more on spending time with family. This is one way to celebrate Easter more meaningfully. Visit family members you may not have seen lately, especially those who may be infirm, in a retirement home, or a nursing home. Pick up an elderly family member and take them with you to religious services.

Most people realize that Easter is a religious holiday. For Christians, this means they attend either a sunrise service which symbolizes when Jesus was thought to have risen from the grave, or they attend a religious service later on in the day. The point is that they gather together as a family to commemorate Jesus’ death and resurrection on their behalf.

After church services many families have Easter egg hunts for the children in the family. Of course, many communities and churches offer Easter egg hunts the Saturday before Easter, but that doesn’t preclude your family from having their own. Children will often prefer the egg hunts their own family puts together over community events.

While the women in the family are preparing the Easter meal, the men of the family could go outside and hide Easter eggs for the children. Don’t let them make all of the eggs too easy to find; have them place some in harder places for the older children. They may also want to add a few coins to some of the eggs to give the children an extra surprise.

Food is such an important part of most holidays, and this is true for Easter, too. Try to plan the meal around foods which are traditional to your own family. Perhaps there used to be a particular dish which everyone looked forward to each Easter. Find the recipe and make that dish. Not only will it provide nourishment for your family, you can also use it to recreate an old tradition.

Easter is often seen as a time of rebirth. What better time to celebrate the holiday and welcome spring by planting a few trees, flowers, or perennial plants in a part of your yard dedicated to Easter. Welcoming spring in this way, as well as recognizing the images of rebirth associated with the holiday, may become a treasured family tradition.

Families are often running in many directions during the week. It’s during holidays such as Easter that they are able to come back together. When deciding how to celebrate Easter more meaningfully, try to include all members of the family. Tradition may be important, but it’s the people we share our lives with that truly make celebrating the holiday meaningful.

Holidays can be expensive for families. It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter – they can cost a lot of money. Try using some of these tips for frugal and memorable Easter family fun rather than simply spending money on commercial items.

One thing your family might enjoy is taking a walk outdoors at a park or in your back yard. While you’re enjoying the outdoors, pick up sticks, rocks, or other objects which you can create three-dimensional nature art with. Children will enjoy using sticks to make a mouth or rocks for the eyes. The found objects can also be used in a nature display. Please note it’s important not to take bird nests out of the trees or take wild animals from their habitat.

Dye and decorate Easter eggs together. There are some parts of the process which will require adult supervision but the decorations themselves can be done by the children. See which child can come up with the most unusually decorated eggs.

Spend time together as a family to come up with the menu for a great Easter family meal. Ask everyone who is able to cook to prepare one dish. One person could prepare the meat course, someone else a vegetable dish, someone a salad, and someone else a dessert. Don’t forget to have someone prepare a special beverage for the meal.

Easter is considered a Christian holiday. You may want to attend a local religious observance or spend time as a family learning more about the holiday.

Share what you have with a family in need. This may mean opening your home to invite them to Easter dinner or making Easter baskets to take to the family’s children. If you help a family in need to make their day special, your entire family is more likely to remember the day.

Encourage the children of the family to help make decorations. Use the decorations for your home and if you have extras you can give some to grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other family. You may also want to share some with the family in need so they have something to decorate their home.

Has the family lost a loved one recently? Take a little bit of time out of your Easter Sunday to visit their graves. Specifically talk about your loved ones and remember the good times you had. Your family may decide to make this an annual part of their holiday.

Host a neighborhood Easter egg hunt rather than simply having one for your own family. Ask other families in the neighborhood to help by either purchasing the plastic eggs, providing candy, or providing refreshments for the event. The hunt may become a favorite part of the neighborhood’s celebration of Easter.

These tips for frugal and memorable Easter family fun are by no means the only things you can do. The easiest thing to do would be to ask your family what would make the holiday more memorable for them. Then take the time to make those activities happen.

Now, it seems, everything but the kitchen sink is included, making them a bit high in price. Here are some tips for making your own Easter baskets using creative and ingenuous ideas.

A basket can come in any size and shape. Traditionally, an Easter basket is made of wicker, filled with brightly colored cellophane and, of course, the handle. You can make a basket out of things in your home. For example, a milk carton can be used. You can wrap it with brightly colored cellophane or tissue paper; attach a bow for the handle, and Voila! An Easter basket is born.

You can also make a cute little basket using a paper plate and ribbon. Make holes on each side of the paper plate; use a bright colored ribbon to insert through the holes; make a bow and you have a basket, similar to one you would use to carry flowers! There are so many designed plates available in your local supermarket. You can dress it up however you choose. Your little girl will love it!

How about buying a plain basket; take some pink or blue ribbon and weave it through the basket? You can cover the handle of the basket with ribbon as well. Instead of buying the cellophane grass; line the bottom of the basket with colorful tissue paper cut into strips – make a nest, so to speak. Fill the basket with whatever you choose.

It is doubtful you will run out of ideas, but just in case check online and you will find a variety of ways in which you can use a paper bag; and even templates which you can print out to make a unique and creative Easter basket this year. These tips for making your own Easter basket are just the “tip” of the iceberg. If you are a craft person, no doubt you will come up with even more creative ways to make this Easter a fun and exciting one for your kids to remember.

Easter is a great holiday celebrated by all the Christians in the world. Ash Wednesday and the Lent period are terms significant during the time of Easter. Ash Wednesday basically calls for the ending of all frivolity in many countries around the world while all the austerity ends on Easter Sunday. On this day you will see many people enjoying in parades, eating sweets and other feasts. It is a time enjoyed by both young and old. Easter traditions, although the basics remain the same, change from country to country. Let’s take a closer look at how some of the countries celebrate these Easter traditions.

Easter traditions in Latin American countries such as Brazil, the carnivals and parties are known to be quite famous with preparation for it going on for months and months. These parties end on Ash Wednesday. Consumption of meat is also halted during the lent season.

Easter traditions in Germany are a bit different than the Brazilians. They have passion plays, theatrical plays that portray the last days of Jesus Christ. All Easter traditions cease on Easter Sunday. Most parts of the world have parades during this holy week.

When talking about the Easter traditions of the Ethiopians, they do not consume any animal products during lent. It is not only meat, but they also refrain from consuming dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese, etc. All countries including Germany and Ethiopia, the Easter traditions on Easter Sunday means that there are religious services carried out as well as family feasts. European children love to have sweets during this time. The Easter bunny is one such specialty.

Many countries have their own set of Easter traditions. Although the Easter bunny is a universal symbol, different countries have different ways when it comes to the appearance of the bunny and the way the sweets are delivered. For example, the American children expect the Easter bunny to work the same way as Santa Claus; to creep inside the home and leave their sweets. Easter traditions when it comes to the Easter bunny differs with the German and French children where they make the bunny a nest made out of twigs and leaves taken from their garden.

The Easter traditions in Europe are mostly linked to the pre-Christian traditions. Some of the Germans celebrate their Easter traditions by having an Easter fire. This is done by burning Christmas trees. It is quite similar to a bonfire.

This celebration dates back to the beginning of Christianity and represents the new life and rebirth of Jesus Christ. This resurrection took place exactly three days after he was crucified and is still largely celebrated every year. When talking about Easter symbols, there are several that are associated with Easter. What exactly are these Easter symbols? Let’s take a closer look.

The most commonly used Easter symbols are the eggs and rabbits. Individuals from various other religions also recognize these Easter symbols and therefore quite famous with everyone around. Eggs symbolizes rebirth. To further explain this as part of Easter symbols, eggs are known to symbolize the tomb from which Jesus Christ emerged. The hatching of the chick symbolizes a newborn life.

You may wonder why rabbits are a part of Easter symbols. The hare actually represents fertility and again symbolizes rebirth and a new life.

The cross is another one of the Easter symbols. In the past it was seen as a symbol of Jesus who died by being crucified, and also a reminder of the cruelty of the Roman Empire. Today, Christians worldwide see it as a symbol of courage and salvation.

The lilies represent and symbolize the purity of Jesus Christ and are one of the Easter symbols that people will never forget. It is said that when Jesus Christ went to a certain place, all the flowers and animals bowed in respect, except for the lilies that were too proud. But when they saw Jesus Christ on the cross, their heads immediately bent and from that day on their heads remain bent as a mark of respect.

The butterfly is also a part of the Easter symbols simply because it has a unique life cycle. The beginning of the life cycle, which is the caterpillar, represents the time Jesus Christ spent in this world. The second stage, which has the cocoon, represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his burial. The resurrection of Jesus is symbolized by the emergence of a beautiful butterfly from its cocoon.

One of the Easter symbols that we don’t see today is the Easter water. In the past, our ancestors received this water from the church on Easter Sunday. This water was then used to bless the homes and also some drank it to cure diseases. With time, this has changed and today many of us don’t know about the truth behind this.

Unless you are a total downer then you are probably among the billions of people who celebrate their birthday every year. Birthdays are a fun event to be celebrated and there are a dozen ways in which your birthday can be turned into an awesome day for everyone! There are definitely some important birthday dates, though, and these usually revolve around a special birthday tradition for the age that you’re celebrating. Chances are that you already know about the birthdays that you have celebrated, but here are some important birthday milestones for the ages that you have not quite reached yet!

Your 16th Birthday Milestone!

When your young and in high school many people could not wait for their 16th birthday! In many of the States in America age 16 is the age at which you can officially get your drivers license and go out driving without your parents. Many high school students continue to celebrate their 16th birthday by taking road trips during the Summer or during Winter or Spring break if their birthday falls during the school year. An even more important concept is parents who buy cars for their children at this age because a car is an excellent gift for a 16th birthday!

Your 18th Birthday Milestone!

This is an even more important birthday milestone just because of the fact that many young adults can’t wait to graduate high school and leave the house that they’ve lived in all their lives so far! The 18th birthday signifies freedom, usually maturity, as well as independence for most people.

Your 30th Birthday Milestone!

Some people don’t consider their 30th birthday to be all that of a big deal, however, some men and some women do find it a little disheartening to turn 30. Sometimes it means that they’re on their way to being old-aged and other times individuals may become a little depressed over the thought of their goals that haven’t been accomplished yet. Turning 30, though, doesn’t have to be all gloom and doom and should be celebrated!

Your 50th Birthday Milestone!

This is another birthday that may have some gloom and doom along with it and it may perhaps be followed by a short mid-life crisis. As with your 30th birthday, though, age 50 should be celebrated. It shouldn’t be a sign that you’re getting older; on the other hand, you should look at it as though you are getting wiser and smarter than the younger people on the planet!

Your 75th Birthday Milestone!

Even though some people may not make it to 75, you may be reminiscing at this point if you have reached age 75. Many elderly people think back to the good days when they were young and would relish the thought of being 20 again!

These are the most important birthdays that you could celebrate in your lifetime! Many good things happen when you hit these milestones. This is not to say, of course, that good birthdays aren’t sprinkled in between these milestones, but they certainly have a nostalgia that comes along with them!

Kids parties will change, as your child gets older, but they still can be a lot of fun to plan and host. As a parent, you will need to work with your child to create a birthday party that is right for them. A ten year old may be well beyond having a clown, balloons and a party with their grandparents and friends. Instead, they may enjoy a pool party, a camping trip or even just a sleep over with friends. When planning the birthday party for an older child, keep in mind that you want them to be happy on this day. It may be hard for you to let go, but they will appreciate it when you follow through with their requests.

Tweens: Planning Ideas For Children Ten To Thirteen

Tweens are one of the most difficult ages to plan a party for. At this age, they are getting to know themselves and impressing friends is all they can think. This is the age where many kids will also feel pressured into doing things that one up the last child’s party. As a parent, you may need to step in and lay out the boundaries. Talk about what is acceptable and what may not be. If they do not have an idea as to what they want to do for a party, here are some ideas:

• Arcade and Pizza: Kids that love arcade games and pizza will love to have a party at a local facility. Go karts can add to the fun, too. You will find that many local facilities will put on the birthday celebration for you, providing you with everything you need for a set fee. These parties can get expensive, depending on if you pay for everyone’s tickets.

• Pool Parties: Something is alluring about the pool and middle school aged children love to invite their friends over for a party like this. It takes only a few minutes to set up and with a few well-planned treats, you can have a fantastic party with virtually no overhead cost (expect for food.)

• Boys and girls both enjoy this activity and continue to become more interested in it all the time. Most laser tag locations now offer a variety of party packages for parents to choose from. These work well for those that want something unique to do.

Planning birthday parties for kids of this age may take some advanced planning on the part of you and your child. They often want to play a role in the birthday or party planning anyway. Kids parties at this age are often filled with noise, music and lots of laughing. Don’t expect them to welcome older family members to their event either. You may want to consider a celebrate birthday celebration for family members.

Tips For Planning Older Kids Parties

When it comes to kids parties, you can go wrong! You do not want to be the party that messed up their child’s party! Here are some tips to help you avoid making common mistakes.

• Choose a party theme that that they enjoy, not what you are looking for. Give them the chance to plan their own event, even. With your guidance, it could be a learning experience for them, too.

• Invest in appropriate decorations. Streamers, balloons and many banners may not be what they are hoping. Instead, find out what they think will be interesting and use that.

• Set a budget for the bash. It is easy to get carried away with your child when planning parties for them. With a budget in place, you and your child can stay within the guidelines and learn something about the process as well.

Stay on top of the trends and party events happening near you. New places to have parties and interesting themes are constantly available. Remember, by the time your child is a teenager, chances are good that they will be less than interested in having a party with mom and dad. Take advantage of this time closely and invest some time making this a bonding experience between you and your child. In the long term, it will pay off

Baby birthdays are a special occasion. During the first year of baby’s life, he or she will likely give you many firsts and many outstanding memories. Yet, there is something magical about that first birthday. In fact, to many parents it is th starting point of a transition from being a baby and being a toddler. Planning that special day for your child will be more for you than the baby since they likely won’t remember it. Yet, making it memorable is not hard to do, especially when you have family and friends wanting to celebrate this day with you.

To Party or Not

The first question to ask about baby birthdays is whether or not to have a full scale party for your child. In some families, it is a tradition to have a larger family get together on that first birthday as a way of welcoming the child into the family and reaching such an important milestone. In other families, the day is a private affair with just the immediate family and perhaps grandparents in attendance. The bottom line is that you should do what is right for you.

Remember that baby won’t remember this day. Pictures and video will be there to help them to see what their first birthday was like though. Planning a fun event can be a good way to show your child love and to celebrate with your loved ones. Because they likely won’t participate too much, be sure to include only a small number of things to do at the event. Otherwise, family and friends will be overwhelmed.

Planning Tips

Planning for baby birthdays should be fun itself. While there is no need to go over the top, there is no doubt that you will be tempted to do so. Set a budget for the event and stay within it. Besides feeding the family that attend and a few colorful decorations, the budget can stay fairly low. Here are some additional tips to help you plan this first birthday.

Activities: When baby birthdays come along down the road, you will want to include lots of fun activities and games to play. While this is a good thing to do for children who are older, at one year old, the child probably won’t participate and will not care one way or another. If you do plan activities for the event, be sure they focus on the age of the other children who will attend the event to keep everyone involved.

Entertainment: Along with activity planning comes entertainment. Many parents want to have a face painter or clown attend. Again, do this for the older kids. One year olds are much more likely to receive a fright by these people since they do not know them.

Decorating: One thing is for sure, one year olds love color. Their eyes are developing the ability to distinguish between colors more readily and they will be attracted to bright colors. Choose a color palate that gives them vibrant colors, often done with classic colors. Keep everyone safe. Balloons are a choking hazard to children this young. Decorate with a 1-year-old theme if you like. Your child may also have a favorite television character or another theme they relate to. Use this first birthday party as a time to celebrate whom your child is by allowing the decorations to come through.

Cakes: The first baby birthday cake is going to be special, no matter what you do with it. Since baby’s shouldn’t have a lot of sweets just yet, you may wish to choose a healthier versions of cake to give him or her. Whatever you do, be sure he gets a piece of his own to smash and eat.

One of the most important elements in any first birthday party will be many fun photos of you with your child. Don’t over plan the event. This day is not just for your little one. It is a day for you, too as the parents. Your baby is growing and with remarkable speed. Make it a special day for you to share with your child. Ten or twenty years from now, they will want to see what you did and how you interacted with them more so than the number of toys they received.

Tween parties have taken on a new look and feel to them, especially when compared to the birthdays you have planned for your child when they were younger. Something happens around the age of ten when children start to become their own individual selves. They do not have the time of day for their parents most often. How will you plan a birthday party for them even though they may not want you to get very involved? The key is to know what they want and then to allow them to help plan the event. It is likely it will not be a surprise, but you will be surprised with their happiness when you pull off a successful birthday party with them.

Getting Started: A Theme

For most tween parties, you will still be able to have a theme, though you won’t find funny clowns and over the top cartoon characters adorning their cakes. Instead, you are likely to find a variety of unique ways to get a theme going. What does your child enjoy? What themes can you find that would fit that area? If you are not sure, here are some ideas.

Slumber Parties: Tween girls are likely to appreciate having a sleepover with their friends. It is likely that things will have changed though. They may want more privacy, scary movies and pizza rather than a younger themed party. Still, this is a fun way for them to spend time with friends while still being safe with you.

Campouts: Boys are often involved with scouting at this age, which makes the campout party a great option for them. Having a campout in the backyard is often just as good as going anywhere. Boys too want a little bit of privacy and they often want to play a few games on their own. Give them freedom, food and a few good ghost stories to tell.

Laser Tag: Both boys and girls will appreciate having a laser tag party. It gets their adrenaline going and can often provide them with just the exercise they need. Most laser locations will have beverages and pizza and may even have a birthday party special that will help pay for the event.

Let Them In On The Plans

For most tweens, making sure that mom and dad won’t screw it up is normal. They want to be sure that you are going to pull of a cool birthday party one that their friends will have fun. They do not want to be embarrassed! Here are some tips to help keep you from making this the worst birthday ever.

• Let them be part of the planning of the event. They will find this to be one of the best ways to get what they are hoping for without having to worry about what you are doing. They will enjoy planning it too.

• Be sure to give the partygoers at least some distance. While you should not leave them along yet, you can give them some space to talk and get to know each other. You may be more willing to let your tween take over the basement than have a group of them upstairs anyway.

• Set the rules. Even though you may not have realized it, your tween may be planning to do something on their birthday that you did not know about it. Or, they could get too loud. For fear the neighbors call the police, be sure that you talk with your tween about the rules. Let them know ahead of time so they know what you expect of them.

Most importantly, have fun. Your tween is at an age where life is changing very rapidly for them. They are going through new experiences everyday and it is frightening for them. Even well adjusted tweens will find themselves overwhelmed at trying to keep up with the trends or having to fit in with friends. For their birthday party, let tween parties be fun and you too will appreciate them. After all, as long as you set the rules, give them what they are hoping for and plan a family birthday celebration, just think of this as another one of their growing pains.

Grandmas adore handmade gifts from their grandchildren, even if they don’t have a use for the gift. They know just how to fawn over present given in love. The following are five ideas that children may like to make for Grandma this year. (Mom, be prepared to help, just in case.)

1. What woman doesn’t love jewelry? Make Grandma a perler bead necklace. Perler beads are short pieces of plastic that are specially made to fuse together when heated with an ordinary household iron. You can buy kits at any craft store; the kits come in a variety of colors and sizes to make multiple patterns. After you have fused the beads together in whatever shape you desire (a heart would be great), why not hot glue some ribbon, sequins, or plastic gems on to make each a one-of-a-kind gift.

2. Potpourri pies are popular in gift stores. Here’s how your little one can create a similar experience. Create this pie with a disposable pie shell. Make a bottom pie crust out of flour/salt dough. Add a potpourri that smells like your grandmother’s favorite scent, and then create a lattice pattern out of the dough. Cover the potpourri and allow the dough to harden overnight. To enjoy the potpourri, “bake” the pie in a warm oven.

3. Help your child make Grandma a great pillow without having to sew. Purchase a floral polar fleece large enough to make a pillow from and some fiberfill to stuff it. Cut this out into two pieces in the shape of a heart, about two and a half inches larger than the finished project should be. Mom, carefully cut a fringe about an inch apart all around the fabric. Line up the fabric wrong sides together and then double knot each fringe, leaving a few pieces untied so you can fill the pillow. Fill the pillow and then finish filling it up, making it as fluffy as you would like. You can leave the pillow as is or decorate with paint markers, or any way your child would like to decorate it.

4. This is another gift that Mom will have to help make, but it could be a lot of fun for both of you. Buy at least 8 ounces of clear glycerin (you should be able to find this at a major craft store), a soap mold, and a very small bottle of lemon essential oil (or Grandma’s favorite scent). You will also need yellow food coloring, 6 tablespoons of corn meal, and 2 teaspoons of poppy seeds. Melt the glycerin according to directions, then add 2 drops of food coloring and 2 drops of lemon oil. Add the corn meal and poppy seeds and stir very well. Pour the mixture into the mold and allow it to sit until firm. Remove it from the mold and place into a small basket.

5. If you really want to tug on Grandma’s heart strings, find photos with your children and Grandma in them. Create a small memory book with the pictures in it. Have the children write the descriptions for each one, explaining what they remember about that particular time. Pre-made scrapbooks would be great for this, and your child could decorate it they like, as well.

Mother’s Day is a time to let mothers and grandmothers know that we love them. Each of the above five gifts made by your children will make Grandma’s day. Not only will she know that your child loves her, but she’ll treasure each gift that was made especially for her.
