1) Devil: The Devil is the ultimate image of Halloween. As long as you have a pitchfork, red cape and forked tail, there are many ways for you to represent this evil character in your Halloween costume.

2) Vampire: There are a huge number of vampire outfits available to buy. These make use of the classic cape, fangs and a telling trail of blood running down the chin.

3) Pirate: Pirates are hugely popular at Halloween, whether you choose to go as Captain Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones, or a more traditional pirate with a peg leg.

4) Superheroes: There are a huge number of superhero outfits for you to choose from if you’re a man. A few suggestions include Superman, Iron Man, Spiderman, Batman, the X Men and more.

5) Skeleton: One of the most classic men’s Halloween costume ideas, the skeleton is the perfect way to represent the dead.

6) Mummy: This is a fun costume idea for men and women, and not too hard to put together yourself if you have the patience to completely wrap yourself up in bandages.

7) Serial Killer: There are plenty of famous serial killers to use for men’s Halloween costume ideas this year. The most popular at Halloween are usually the Scream killer, Jack the Ripper, Jason and the classic bloody surgeons and butchers!

Movie Characters: If you want your Halloween costume to be different to everyone else then have a think through your favorite movies. Is there a character there with some distinguishing features you could dress as this Halloween? Some popular characters of today include the Joker from Batman, Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, Harry Potter and the Mad Hatter.

9) Werewolf: Werewolves have taken off again thanks to movies like Twilight and shows such as True Blood. There are plenty of werewolf costumes available for you to wear, just make sure you get the perfect wolf mask to go with it.

10) Alien: The theme of the unknown is popular every Halloween, and aliens always find their way out at this time of year. Whether you want to go as the scary Predator beasts, the Toy Story alien men, or as a classic bald-headed alien, this is a fun costume idea for men at Halloween.

There is certainly no shortage of Halloween costumes for boys this year. If you’re trying to figure out the best costume idea for your child, here are five of the most popular costume themes today.

Harry Potter

The Harry Potter movies may have finished by now, but little boys still love to dress up as this famous wizard for Halloween. To get this look right you’ll need the Hogwarts robe with the Gryffindor crest. And, to make sure everyone knows he’s come as Harry, he’ll want to wear the distinctive round glasses, with the lightning bolt scar on his head. And don’t forget the wizard’s wand!

Buzz Lightyear & Other Toy Story Characters

Just about every little boy loves Toy Story, so why not go with this theme for Halloween? The Buzz Lightyear costume can be a little complicated to put together, but there are officially licensed versions available that look just like the real thing. They come with the detailed body suit and jet pack to get your little boy ready for his adventures in space!

If you want to stick with the Toy Story theme then a few other ideas include Woody the Sheriff, the Alien Men, Mr. Potato Head or, for younger ones, Lotso Huggin’ Bear.

Spiderman

Little boys love to dress up as Spiderman, whether it’s Halloween or not. This firm favorite is always available from Halloween costume stores in a variety of sizes to suit all ages. Boys will especially love the reversible Spiderman suit that lets them dress up as the red or black version of his character, whichever one he feels like wearing on the day!

Of course he isn’t just limited to Spiderman, just about any superhero makes a good idea for Halloween costumes for boys.

Transformers Bumblebee

Transformers movies have really sparked an interest in related Halloween costumes for boys. Bumblebee is the autobot scout with the distinguishing yellow details. For kids who want a few more Halloween options, then Optimus Prime is the other brave and heroic character that kids love to play, or they can choose the evil Megatron costume if they prefer!

Darth Vader

For something really impressive, your boy could choose the Star Wars Darth Vader costume. This involves the all black suit, the black cape, and the famous Darth Vader mask. There are a number of officially licensed Darth Vader costumes available to buy to make things easier for you. And don’t forget the lightsaber!

There is a huge range of Halloween costumes for girls to choose from. Whether they want to be cute, scary, or to represent their favorite movie character, here are five ideas to choose from.

1) Monster High

Monster High dolls are based on popular fictional monsters, but have their own very distinctive characteristics. They aren’t just popular toys, though, they also make very cute Halloween costumes for girls!

Some of the characters include Frankie Stein (the daughter of Frankenstein and his Bride), Draculaura (Dracula’s daughter), Cleo de Nile (the Mummy’s daughter) and Lagoona Blue (daughter of a Sea Monster and Ocean Nymph).

These are excellent choices for Halloween – a fun mix between teenage fashion and their traditional monster parents! You can find officially licensed costumes in stores or try to make your own.

2) Harry Potter – Hermione

Harry Potter is a firm favorite among girls and boys at Halloween. For the girls, the main costume option is Hermione. She’s headstrong but she’s great at casting spells. Hermione is most commonly remembered in her Gryffindor robe, complete with the crest, and for her long brown hair. Make sure you accessorize this costume with a wand!

3) Princesses

Little girls never tire of dressing up as their favorite princess. The great thing about these Halloween costumes for girls is that there are so many ways to make the costume unique. One idea is to get your little girl to choose her favorite Disney princess to dress up as. Whether she wants to be Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty or Jasmine, there are officially licensed costumes available.

Or you could create your own princess, taking the traditional princess gown and crown and making something that’s completely unique!

4) Toy Story’s Jessie

Jessie from Toy Story has to be one of the most popular Halloween costumes for girls of the moment! Jessie is the loveable cowgirl who was originally made as part of a set with Woody and Bullseye the horse. Her costume is a lot like Woody’s, with cow print chaps, a white shirt with yellow details, and a cowgirl hat. For the most authentic look add a red braided wig.

5) Witch

The witch is the classic Halloween image, which explains why it’s so popular with girls of all ages. The costume usually means a long black dress, dark hair and the famous witches hat and broom. It isn’t too difficult to create your own!

Halloween should be fun for kids, but there are also a number of safety issues that all parents should consider. To make sure the costume you choose is safe and fun, make sure you follow these essential Halloween costume safety tips.

Flame Resistant Costumes

The US government urges all parents to ensure that any kids Halloween costume you buy has a Flame Resistant label – this is especially important when carrying jack-o-lanterns lit with candles.

Flame resistance means that, if the clothing does set fire, it can be quickly extinguished. No costume is going to be completely protected against setting fire in the first place, but this label makes sure the clothing as safe as possible.

Safety During The Dark

Trick or treating at Halloween is usually done in the dark. Although there will be a lot of people out in some areas, it’s still important to take precautions so that your kids can be seen be other people, especially in cars.

Some tips include giving your child a flashlight to carry around with them for the evening, and adding a reflective trim to your child’s costume to make it easier for drivers to spot them. You can also get clip on lights and build this into the child’s costume so that they’re always visible and can see where they’re going.

Is Your Costume Safe For Children?

Aside from the specific concerns above, there are also a few other things you’ll want to consider when it comes to kids Halloween costume safety.

* If your child is wearing a mask as part of their costume, does it fit properly? There’s a danger that it could restrict breathing if it’s too tight. Aside from this, children wearing masks may find it difficult to see where they’re going, increasing the risk of them falling or getting lost. Make sure that the mask has good-sized eyeholes.

* Children should never use toy weapons, such as swords, guns and so on, that look real. They can hurt themselves if they’re playing with any sharp objects, so only buy very fake-looking weapons made out of soft materials.

* Make sure that your child can easily walk around in their costume. If it’s too long for them, they might trip and fall. The same goes for uncomfortable or ill-fitting shoes.

It isn’t always easy to get your children to listen to these kids Halloween costume safety tips, so you may have to sit down with them to help them understand why it’s so important.

1) Pumpkin

You knew that pumpkin would be on this list somewhere, didn’t you? But there are many ways to display your pumpkin proudly, besides a basic carving. You could decorate the base of the pumpkin with fall leaves, use the pumpkin as a vase for a big display of flowers/ leaves, or even spray the pumpkin black to create a Halloween-themed pumpkin and spider web display.

2) Body Parts

These are the kind of Halloween table decorations that kids just love to help you make! Get yourself some Halloween eyeballs and dot them around the table, or go one step further and create your own Halloween specimen jars. You and your kids can work together to find a range of vegetables to represent different body parts.

3) A Witches Hat

This is another hugely popular idea for a Halloween centerpiece, and it isn’t difficult to see why! This can be as simple as buying a cheap witches hat from a Halloween costume store and decorating it with spiders, bats and any other Halloween-themed items. If you were feeling adventurous, you could make a huge Halloween witch hat cake to place in the middle of the table.

4) Candles

Get creative with some candles to create the perfect atmosphere with your Halloween table decorations. The gothic theme works best for this, so stick to black candlestick holders and long, thin candlesticks. You can use this as a centerpiece, and place smaller candles all around the table. Turn the lights off to create the spooky atmosphere you want at a Halloween party. Remember to be careful about where you place any real candles, especially if they’re near flammable material or could easily be knocked over.

5) Tablecloths

No matter which Halloween table decorations you ultimately choose, you should buy a themed tablecloth as the backdrop of your display. The simplest option is to buy a plain black cloth and decorate it with what goes on the table. Some tablecloths are already decorated with bats, skulls and other Halloween imagery.

6) Skulls

Around Halloween it’s easy to find skulls available to buy in stores. Some of them are suitable for holding a tea light candle, adding to the atmosphere. Or you could use them as candy jars to gross people out every time they want to reach for a treat!

There are many ways to decorate your home for Halloween. If you want people on the outside to see you’ve made an effort then Halloween window decorations are perfect for doing just that. Here are five ideas to inspire you.

Spiders And Bats

Some of the simplest and most popular decorations come in the form of hanging spiders and bats. These can be made at home using cardboard and/ or pipe cleaners, and hung down the glass using pieces of string. They may be simple, but they help create the atmosphere for anyone passing by and looking at your home.

Cobwebs

You can’t have spiders without cobwebs! There are plenty of cobweb decorations available to buy in store, that’ll stretch all across the surface of your windows. If you want to make your own then you can cut shapes out of cardboard or create intricate spiderweb patterns using string. You can also use old cotton balls you may have lying around – just quickly tear them up and add them to your current window display.

Autumn Window Decorations

Some people go with the autumn theme for their Halloween window decorations. This means leaves, dried flowers, and vegetables like pumpkins. One idea is to go foraging and create your own Halloween garlands for the window. Or you could buy false leaves if you want to keep using them again and again, year after year. The beauty of autumn decorations is that you can keep them up for longer even after Halloween is finished.

Halloween Curtains

Some people go as far as to put up Halloween themed curtains at this time of the year. You’ll find all sorts of decorated curtains available to buy in store or online, though if you’re going for an overall spooky theme in the home then you may choose simple gothic velvet to match the rest of your Halloween décor. Although curtains cost more than other Halloween decorations, they’re cost effective if you plan on using them year after year.

Life-Sized Halloween Dummies

If you want to go one step further than everyone else then why not decorate your windows with life-sized Halloween dummies? That could mean a mummy staring out at passersby, a zombie trying to escape from your home, or even the model of a skeleton staring out of your window. These create an excellent display for those outside of your home.

Halloween yard decorations are always an excellent way to celebrate the season. Not only do they provide some fun projects for the kids to get stuck into, they also create a great experience for trick or treaters and your neighbors on the night. Here are 6 Halloween yard decoration ideas that are sure to create a spooky atmosphere!

1) Ghosts

By the time it gets dark, and the trick or treaters come out, it’ll be hard to tell whether those fake ghosts you put up in the yard are actually real or not. Scatter silhouettes of ghosts throughout your yard using posts and white sheets, and they’ll create a very eerie looking figure in lower light levels!

2) Graveyard

Many people looking for Halloween yard decoration ideas choose to turn their yard into a graveyard. This is also a good one to couple with the ghost idea above. To make the gravestones, use old cardboard boxes and paint them grey. You can write your own details on them and then fill them with something heavy (such as sand or rocks) so that the stay put in your yard. Sprinkle some fresh dirt around the grave for a more realistic look.

3) Zombies

Those looking for more adventurous Halloween yard decoration ideas can create some zombies to crawl out of the graves. To do this, look for various Halloween body parts in stores and set it up so it looks like an arm is bursting through the ground. You could even scatter these bloody body parts around the garden for extra effect.

4) Bats

Many people create their own bats out of black card and hang them around the garden. Hang them onto bushes, trees and your home to help recreate the spooky atmosphere of a bat-infested area.

5) Witches

If you do have a tree in your yard, why not put a witch up there? The “witch crash” is always a favorite. This involves creating a witch that’s “hugging” the tree after crashing on it head on. This means her face is hidden, but you’ll need to create some fake legs and arms (by stuffing old clothing) to make the crash look realistic. Make sure you put this in a prominent location for passers by!

6) Halloween Fog

Have you ever noticed how all graveyards on television seem to be clouded in a thick fog? There’s something about fog that just makes things spookier! If you want to recreate this in your own yard then get your hands on some dry ice. Remember not to let this come into contact with your skin, it’s extremely cold.

Want to make sure you don’t look like everyone else this Halloween? Got a bit more time on your hands to come up with something unforgettable? Then here are 5 creative Halloween costumes for women that you can try.

1) Mermaid

The beauty of mermaid costumes is that they can be as simple or as detailed as you require. The best mermaid costumes involve an intricate tail that goes right down to the floor. Some women create a long tail with holes for their feet, that then flicks up at the end. Add to this creative look with blue and green ribbons in your hair (like seaweed), and a shell bikini top.

2) Mother Nature

Mother Nature may be a popular Halloween costume theme, but there are many ways to go about putting it together. The most creative Halloween costumes for women tend to go into more detail. You might choose to paint a giant ball around you as the Earth and use this as your costume, or create a detailed gown full of natural materials such as leaves, flowers, fruit and other natural imagery.

3) Blow Up Doll

Warning – this idea is strictly for adult parties only! For an extra creative Halloween costume for women, try dressing up as a classic blow up doll. To do so, you’re going to need to buy a skin-colored body suit, with holes in all the right places (make sure you’re wearing something underneath!) You should even cover your head, with drawn on red lips and wide eyes for the complete love doll look.

4) Body Paint Costumes

Body paint can be used in so many ways to create the most unique Halloween costumes for both men and women. It’ll take a bit of practice, but why not try creating the costume of your choice completely out of body paint? Do it right and people won’t even notice at first that it isn’t real – this is a great way to shock and surprise people.

5) Split Personality

Lastly, split personality themes always make for some creative Halloween costumes for women. This means dressing half as you in one style, and the other half another. For example, one could be your good side and one could be your evil side, or one could be a superhero in their day to day “normal” wear, one can be their superhero side.

Family traditions can be the glue which holds a family together. This is particularly true when it comes to traditions concerning holidays. Many families wonder how to celebrate Easter more meaningfully as well as the other holidays throughout the year.

Rather than focusing on the Easter candy the children will receive and eat, focus more on spending time with family. This is one way to celebrate Easter more meaningfully. Visit family members you may not have seen lately, especially those who may be infirm, in a retirement home, or a nursing home. Pick up an elderly family member and take them with you to religious services.

Most people realize that Easter is a religious holiday. For Christians, this means they attend either a sunrise service which symbolizes when Jesus was thought to have risen from the grave, or they attend a religious service later on in the day. The point is that they gather together as a family to commemorate Jesus’ death and resurrection on their behalf.

After church services many families have Easter egg hunts for the children in the family. Of course, many communities and churches offer Easter egg hunts the Saturday before Easter, but that doesn’t preclude your family from having their own. Children will often prefer the egg hunts their own family puts together over community events.

While the women in the family are preparing the Easter meal, the men of the family could go outside and hide Easter eggs for the children. Don’t let them make all of the eggs too easy to find; have them place some in harder places for the older children. They may also want to add a few coins to some of the eggs to give the children an extra surprise.

Food is such an important part of most holidays, and this is true for Easter, too. Try to plan the meal around foods which are traditional to your own family. Perhaps there used to be a particular dish which everyone looked forward to each Easter. Find the recipe and make that dish. Not only will it provide nourishment for your family, you can also use it to recreate an old tradition.

Easter is often seen as a time of rebirth. What better time to celebrate the holiday and welcome spring by planting a few trees, flowers, or perennial plants in a part of your yard dedicated to Easter. Welcoming spring in this way, as well as recognizing the images of rebirth associated with the holiday, may become a treasured family tradition.

Families are often running in many directions during the week. It’s during holidays such as Easter that they are able to come back together. When deciding how to celebrate Easter more meaningfully, try to include all members of the family. Tradition may be important, but it’s the people we share our lives with that truly make celebrating the holiday meaningful.

Holidays can be expensive for families. It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter – they can cost a lot of money. Try using some of these tips for frugal and memorable Easter family fun rather than simply spending money on commercial items.

One thing your family might enjoy is taking a walk outdoors at a park or in your back yard. While you’re enjoying the outdoors, pick up sticks, rocks, or other objects which you can create three-dimensional nature art with. Children will enjoy using sticks to make a mouth or rocks for the eyes. The found objects can also be used in a nature display. Please note it’s important not to take bird nests out of the trees or take wild animals from their habitat.

Dye and decorate Easter eggs together. There are some parts of the process which will require adult supervision but the decorations themselves can be done by the children. See which child can come up with the most unusually decorated eggs.

Spend time together as a family to come up with the menu for a great Easter family meal. Ask everyone who is able to cook to prepare one dish. One person could prepare the meat course, someone else a vegetable dish, someone a salad, and someone else a dessert. Don’t forget to have someone prepare a special beverage for the meal.

Easter is considered a Christian holiday. You may want to attend a local religious observance or spend time as a family learning more about the holiday.

Share what you have with a family in need. This may mean opening your home to invite them to Easter dinner or making Easter baskets to take to the family’s children. If you help a family in need to make their day special, your entire family is more likely to remember the day.

Encourage the children of the family to help make decorations. Use the decorations for your home and if you have extras you can give some to grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other family. You may also want to share some with the family in need so they have something to decorate their home.

Has the family lost a loved one recently? Take a little bit of time out of your Easter Sunday to visit their graves. Specifically talk about your loved ones and remember the good times you had. Your family may decide to make this an annual part of their holiday.

Host a neighborhood Easter egg hunt rather than simply having one for your own family. Ask other families in the neighborhood to help by either purchasing the plastic eggs, providing candy, or providing refreshments for the event. The hunt may become a favorite part of the neighborhood’s celebration of Easter.

These tips for frugal and memorable Easter family fun are by no means the only things you can do. The easiest thing to do would be to ask your family what would make the holiday more memorable for them. Then take the time to make those activities happen.
